Email from Brother Allen - March 30th, 2015

#1                    This Wednesday (4/1/15) we will be meeting at the church @6:30 PM.  Please note the earlier time.  We are in charge of the combined activity and need the extra time to get the activity prepared.  We will be doing the "Human Hungry Hippos" activity.  Pleae bring your assigned item or items to bring.  President Martinez said he will be sending out a reminder about your assignment.  This should be a fun activity if everyone is involved and fulfills their assignments.  Brother Terry, we have asked that the other mutual classes provide the dessert for the activity.  If you would, please remind them of that.  Thanks.
#2                    I know some of you received partials at Scoutcamp for the Cooking merit badge.  I have attached the Cooking merit badge worksheet.  Please refer to that worksheet for more clarification.  The scouts that received partials still need to complete requirements #1d, 2a-d, 3b, 5a-f, 6a-b, 7c-e, 8.  Those sections need to be completed in the attached worksheet and brought to me to complete this required merit badge.  Going on the campout last weekend satisfied requirement 7c-e

Emails from Brother Allen - March 29th, 2015

Thanks to all of the scouts that were able to participate in the Babe Ruth Flag Ceremony.  They looked sharp and we received many compliments from those at the event.  Way to represent Troop 499!

Babe Ruth Celebration - Email from Brother Allen - March 23rd, 2015

Hello Scouts and Parents,

We have been asked to present the colors at the Babe Ruth celebration thisSaturday (3/28/15) at about 6 PM at the Babe Ruth baseball field in Camas a couple blocks east of the Camas Safeway.  I would like Jefferson Jackson to take the lead as our Patrol Leader to accomplish this request.  We will need to be in full uniform.  We should meet at the park at around 5:45 PM.  It should only take about 10-15 minutes.

If you have any questions and/or concerns, please let me know.  Thanks.

#1                    This Wednesday we will not be meeting as per normal because this weekend we are having our Backpacking Campout Friday and Saturday March 27-28.  We will be meeting at the church at 3:45 PM.  The food this time will be not be a combined effort so everyone will need to pack their own food.  We will be heating up water for our meals.  The scouts will need to bring dinner and breakfast and a snack that is appropriate for backpacking. The scouts went over the food planning for this type of camping and should know what type of food to bring.  Also, you should buddy up on tents.  Bring a packable tent if you have one.  We will be returning Saturday mid to late morning.

Scout Leaders,

We're excited for our Merit badge fair this Saturday.  Attached is a flyer with all the details including an agenda.  just as a reminder, the fair will be from 9AM to 1PM.  Each session will be taught twice giving the scouts more flexibility in their schedule and will also give them the opportunity to potentially earn two badges.  The first sessions will be from 9:15 to 10:45AM and the second sessions will be from 11AM to 12:45PM.  There will be snacks provided in the middle between sessions and at the end.  The fair will be done by 1PM.  11 year old scouts are also invited to attend.  We will be combined with Vancouver Stake and event will be at our Stake Center on 18th street.

Once again, badges being offered are:

  2. Citizenship in the Community
  3. Citizenship in the World
  4. First Aid
  5. Family Life

#4                    The Stake is doing a Merit Badge Fair at the Stake Center onSaturday March 21st starting at 9 AM and going to 1 PM.  They will be offering Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Family Life, First Aid and Personal Management.  This is open to 11 year old scouts and older.  Each session will be around two hours so each scout can be involved with two merit badges.  I would highly encourage your scouts participation in this merit badge morning.  This could be very helpful in completing unfinished merit badges or partials and/or starting required merit badges to earn the Eagle rank as all of the merit badges being offered are required.

Email from Bro. Allen - March 13, 2015

Yesterday for scouts, we started working on the Personal Fitness merit badge.  This merit badge is required for Eagle.  This merit badge has a requirement that takes 12 weeks to complete.  That requirement is to track a weekly exercise program that will improve on the scouts aerobic fitness, flexibility, strength and body composition.  The last three pages of the worksheet has a chart they can track their exercise program.  Requirement #8 has a chart that also needs to be tracked on their improvements in the fitness areas every 2 weeks.  To pass this merit badge off, the worksheet attached will need to be completed.  Let me know if you need any help in doing so.  One of the homework assignments for the scouts is to figure out how to calculate their BMI and BMI persentile.

If you have any questions and/or concerns, please let me know.  Thanks.
